In a structured settlement or Annuity, instead of receiving a cash settlement in a single lump sum, the injured party will receive future periodic payments made through a Structured Settlement annuity. There are two main advantages of a structured settlement. The first advantage is that it is tax free. Structured settlements are covered under section 104 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and therefore totally tax free, both federally and at the State level. This is absolutely different than when one opts to receive a lump sum settlement where investment proceeds made with the settlement proceeds such as interest and dividents are subject to both Federal and State taxes.

I would have to agree that an annuity agent is a great source of information regarding that topic. I’m not sure if you put it as number 1 on purpose but it’s the best way to get the information that you need since not all situations are the same.

The differences between annuities are in a variable your money is at financial risk in the stock market and returns are not fixed. In a fixed product you get a specific distribution at a specific time, based on the full faith and credit of the insurance company. Personally I hate all insurance products, because I’m a better investor.

I had a variable annuity which was earning well. But had to take out most of it to pay rent, etc. Now have 10% penalty. Thankfully don’t make enough to pay taxes on it. Unemployment is good for one thing at least.

Annuity rates are the rates come in effect when a client purchases an annuity fixes the amount that he or she will earn on that investment. The interest or income will be higher, if the rate is higher at the time of purchase.

It is very hard to find good annuity rates especially during crisis, till now you could easy borrow some money in JPY and put it in a Turkish bank and obtain something like 11,5% per year.

This is a great resource for where to look up annuity rates. However, I prefer to talk to my financial advisor from time to time about my annuities. He is able to give me some insight on how rates will trend with current economic factors which helps me make the proper decision regarding my annuities.
